Roche is offering a 2025 Summer Intern position in Sustainability and Systems Engineering at their Carlsbad, CA location. The internship involves assessing designs, researching regulations, and developing recyclability plans as part of GenMark Diagnostics. 2025 Summer Intern - Sustainability and Systems Engineering

Department Summary:

GenMark Diagnostics (a member of the Roche Group) is a leading provider of multiplex molecular diagnostic solutions designed to enhance patient care, improve key quality metrics, and reduce the total cost-of-care. GenMark’s cobas® eplex: The True Sample-to-Answer Solution™ is designed to optimize laboratory efficiency and address a broad range of infectious disease testing needs, including respiratory and bloodstream infections.

GenMark’s Systems Engineering team focuses on complex challenges where hardware, electrical, software and consumable development meet for state of the art multiplex molecular diagnostic solutions. The primary responsibilities of this role will include a sustainability and recyclability project. You will have access to a team mentor as well as design for sustainability, regulatory, and design experts.

This internship position is located in Carlsbad California, On-site.

The Opportunity:
• Assessing current designs
• Researching regulatory landscape
• Developing and assessing new design concepts
• Formulating recyclability plans

Program Highlights:
• Intensive 12-weeks , full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
• Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
• A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
• Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
• Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)
You meet one of the following criteria:
- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student)
- Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student)
- Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student)

Preferred Majors:

- Sustainability Engineering

- Systems Engineering

- Biomedical Engineering / Bioengineering

- Environmental Engineering

- Materials Science & Engineering

- Any other engineering or scientific major

Preferred Skills:
• Interest and experience in bio recycling
• Experience assessing regulatory landscapes and reviewing regulatory standards
• Engineering problem solving
• Data analysis

Preferred Qualifications:
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.
• Desire GPA 3.0 or higher.
• Previous work experience
• Student organization and/or study abroad experiences are a plus.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $22.00-$43.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
