• What you'll do
- The Financial Analysis Technical Lead is a senior, experienced commercial management professional with a proven ability
- to lead/support commercial negotiations and transaction structuring work and the cross-functional development of advanced
- financial evaluation tools. This work requires strategic thinking and influential leadership to support complex business
- decisions across the company.
- The Commercial Negotiations and Financial Analysis (CNFA) team, within the Finance, Technology and Supply Chain- capital projects and for managing large, complex, transactions across BC Hydro. The CNFA group also supports broader
- Treasury functions by developing advanced financial analytics tools (such as Monte Carlo analysis) to inform debt
- management strategy (including future debt hedging) or financial/credit risk analysis. This group is centrally located in the
- Finance corporate group, to ensure quality and consistency of deliverables across the organization by ensuring strict
- adherence to documentation sequence for governance requirements/approvals and developing and maintaining associated
- processes and tools.
- The technical lead is responsible for engaging with internal and external professionals to coordinate and provide
- commercial advice on key initiatives. This includes working with internal BC Hydro groups such as Project Delivery,
- Integrated Planning, Engineering, Finance, Customer Service and Regulatory as business partners and clients for core
- work. The technical lead also works closely with other CNFA staff to provide analytics, strategic input and guidance on other
- CNFA support initiatives and reporting.
- Knowledge required:
- knowledge of and experience with BC Hydro’s business and regulatory environment, including our operations, facilities,

assets, programs, projects and contracts (such as Electricity Purchase Agreements).- in-depth knowledge and experience with analytical tools, financial modeling and commercial structuring relevant to capital

planning, project delivery, IPP contracts, and business performance.- knowledge and experience in risk analysis and structured decision making.
- knowledge of and experience in negotiation and transaction structuring.
- knowledge of and experience with project management practices.

Key responsibilities include:
- Analyze issues, evaluate options and provide commercial recommendations to management on transactions, projects and

other initiatives assigned with the appropriate support from the functional disciplines.- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to identify analytical requirements, facilitate workshops, gather information,

and communicate results to cross-functional teams;- Builds collaborative relationships across the organization to support and improve commercial analytics functions.
- Exercise independent judgement on complex, broad commercial decisions and clearly articulate rationale for decisions.
- Engage and collaborate with internal or external legal or financial advisors on commercial issues where significant legal or

financial implications may arise.- Lead up to medium complexity commercial negotiations with external counterparties.
- Support high complexity commercial negotiations with external counterparties.
- Provide alternative commercial structuring options to support business decisions.
- Present complex information and analysis to professional and executive level audiences to communicate business

insights and support decisions.- Undertake work with accountability a strong customer service focus to contribute to achieving cross-organizational

strategic goals.- Development and maintenance of key evaluation inputs.
- Maintain and share knowledge of cross-industry practice around financial analysis in regulated utilities and the electrical

industry.- Provide financial analysis training to other business groups within BC Hydro. Contribute to a “centre of excellence”

analytics culture within BC Hydro.- Ensure delivery, quality and consistency with other CNFA team deliverables.
