Environmental Specialist

Company: Mortenson

Summary

Mortenson is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist HQ with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment. The individual must remain flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Environmental Specialist will support Mortenson's Federal contracting work.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Mortenson's environmental program for simple to moderately complex project sites and ensure environmental compliance of construction activities.
  • Develop site-specific environmental plans and activities.
  • Review environmental submittals, attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings.
  • Implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Develop and lead environmental orientation and training programs.
  • Lead onsite best management practices for environmental management.
  • Monitor implementation of environmental mitigation measures and conduct work site environmental inspections.
  • Collaborate with customers on regulatory reporting and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain operational knowledge of environmental issues, construction standards, regulations, laws, and procedures.
  • Interface with customer's environmental personnel, consultants, regulatory representatives, etc.
  • Assist in the development of company-wide Environmental Management programs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of four years of related experience.
  • Experience with Federal contracting work.
  • Experience with Industrial and Manufacturing work permitting.
  • Experience with hazardous building materials survey and abatement.
  • Experience with waste streams and associated compliance obligations.
  • Experience with Environmental Due Diligence as it pertains to property acquisition.
  • Experience with Minor and Major Source Air Permitting.
  • Significant experience in erosion prevention, sediment control, stormwater pollution prevention plans, spill prevention controls, countermeasures, wetlands, and endangered species.
  • Strong understanding of Federal, State, Provincial, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Organized, self-directed, collaborative, and a team player.
  • Ability to interact with consultants and governmental agencies.
  • Proficiency in using PC tablets and common software packages.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Able to travel up to 50%.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in geology, environmental management, environmental science, biology, or a related field.
