**Position title:** Project Consultant – Climate  **Unit:** Conservation Unit (Climate Programme)    **Directly reports to:** Project Manager & Head of Climate  **Location:** Dubai and other parts of UAE as per job requirement    **Direct reports:** None  **Type of contract:** 6-month consultancy    **Joining Date:** June 2024          ## Background

Emirates Nature is a UAE environmental non-governmental charity, established in 2001 under the Honorary Founder and President H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan as a legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed’s vision for the United Arab Emirates. Emirates Nature works in association with WWF, one of the world’s largest and most respected independent conservation organizations. Emirates Nature-WWF has been active in the UAE for two decades and is renowned for its commitment to biodiversity conservation, habitat protection, sustainable development, and community engagement. Some of our flagship projects include marine conservation initiatives to protect coral reefs and marine species, wildlife conservation programs focusing on endangered species such as Arabian oryx and sea turtles, habitat restoration projects in critical ecosystems, and sustainable development initiatives aimed at mitigating climate change impacts and promoting eco-friendly practices across various sectors.

It is our organizational objective to ensure a high performing workforce within our offices with highly efficient, skilled members all of whom will be unilaterally focused on supporting and delivering conservation activities to our stakeholders within the UAE.

      ## Job Summary

As a Project Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Climate Programme and UAE Alliance for Climate Action (UACA) within the Conservation unit. This role involves assisting in the implementation of key initiatives, supporting monitoring and evaluation activities, and facilitating internal and external communications and reporting. The Project Consultant will contribute to research and data gathering for the UACA project and assist in drafting concept notes, work plans, and proposals for wider climate and nature focused initiatives.

      ## Major Duties and Key Responsibilities

**Climate Programme (100%):** Support the climate programme in existing projects and new potential projects with a specific focus on:

UAE Alliance for Climate Action (70%):

  • Case Study Development: Lead the design and execution of comprehensive case studies showcasing members' innovative decarbonization practices and success stories. Work closely with member organizations to gather data, conduct interviews, and compile impactful narratives that demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of sustainable practices.
  • Due Diligence: Conduct thorough due diligence on potential member prospects, assessing their commitment to climate action and other areas, alignment with organizational values, and potential contribution to the project’s goals. Utilize research and analysis to evaluate prospective members' track records, capabilities, and credibility in advancing sustainability efforts.
  • Data Validation Development and Oversight: Spearhead the development and implementation of robust data validation processes and protocols for the project’s flagship digital product. Collaborate with technical teams to ensure data accuracy, reliability, and consistency. Provide guidance and oversight to maintain high standards of data integrity and credibility.
  • Project Oversight: Support the project manager in maintaining databases and workflows to ensure the project meets its objectives. Provide support in project management tasks, including maintaining databases and workflow systems to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Road 2.0: Support collating the inputs from suppliers and prepare documents to be shared with signatories on the knowledge repository. Update Road 2.0 decks with graphic designer and ensure appropriate materials are developed to communicate about the initiative.
  • Summaries & briefing documents: Prepare high level briefing notes for UACA chair and advisory committee and develop post-workshop reports and summaries to share with external stakeholders and internal institutional memory.
  • Workshops and webinars: Prepare presentations, coordinate with speakers and support coordination for workshops and webinars. Coordinate with members on peer to peer learning opportunities to increase information exchange.
  • Improve existing communication channels with members: Manage Whatsapp group for members with channels and suggested ways of communication based on needs of projects and devise plan on how it will be rolled out. Improve & share relevant information on domestic policies and updates with members and climate team.
  • General coordination, reporting and communication: support project in general coordination with stakeholders, reporting to donors, developing presentations and slides for potential donors and support marketing and communication administrative needs.

Other Climate Projects (30%):

  • Project Scoping: Support Head of Climate in advancing on new potential projects linked to climate and nature by developing concept notes, presentations, and align with internal and external stakeholders. Develop project budgets projections, and other actions required.

  • Proposal Writing for New Projects: Support the development of project proposals outlining objectives, activities, expected outcomes, and budget estimates. Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to gather input, feedback, and support for proposal.

        ## Required Qualifications
    
    • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in the environmental, conservation, or climate field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, conservation, or a related field.

  • Master’s degree preferable in related field.

  • Familiarity with project management, proposal writing, due diligence, climate action, and environmental sustainability concepts.

  • High level of cultural sensitivity and awareness with ability to work in a multi-cultural setting.

  • Proven knowledge and or experience in the non-profit sector, preferably of environmental non-government organizations.

  • Proficiency in English both written and spoken.

  • Arabic considered a plus.

  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with data analysis tools and platforms (e.g., Excel, Powerpoint) and project management software (e.g., Monday.com) to manage workflows and track progress effectively.
  • Collaboration and Relationship-Building: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and build collaborative relationships internally and with external stakeholders.
