About The Power Resources TeamMCE’s Power Resources team is responsible for building a portfolio of clean resources to meet needs of the customers and reliability of the grid. This team focuses on meeting MCE’s renewable energy and greenhouse gas free (GHG-free) targets, helping MCE reach 85% renewable by 2029 while maintaining at least 95% GHG-free energy for our Light Green product. The power resources team negotiates and manages MCE’s Power Purchase and Energy Storage Agreements and Feed-in Tariff program. The effective work of this team has allowed us to reinvest in renewable energy projects within MCE’s service area that create family-sustaining green-collar jobs.

As a Power Resources Manager

You will have responsibility for a wide range of energy procurement activities for supply of Greenhouse Gas-free energy (GHG-free) and renewable energy, including: Contract origination, negotiations, management and administration; Invoice and Renewable Energy Credit review and validation; Position management; Monitoring California Independent System Operator (CAISO) market participation; Coordination with MCE’s Policy team and MCE consultants, timely submission of data requests from CalCCA and regulatory bodies like California Public Utilities Commission(CPUC) and CAISO.

Key Responsibilities

• Solicitations and Project Evaluations - Determine procurement needs, evaluate projects for economics and viability, assess project development and interconnection risk and make recommendations to senior management.
• Power Supply Contracting - Lead, track and manage all aspects of the contract lifecycle, from contract negotiations, execution, adhering to guaranteed milestones in the development and operational stages, through contract expiration.
• Coordination with Portfolio Management - Work closely with the Portfolio Managers to determine procurement needs and keep them informed of project delays, failures and performance issues and assess impacts on Portfolio Targets.
• Performance Monitoring - Monitor energy deliveries for assigned contracts and validate against expected deliveries and guaranteed deliveries. Communicate updates, irregularities and issues on project performance to the Portfolio Managers and consultants to ensure changes are reflected in all portfolio modeling tools. Be familiar with MCE’s position management and modeling tools, including the Load and Resource Balance and Visualizer.
• Resource Onboarding and Asset Optimization - Work with developers and the MCE’s scheduling coordinator to integrate resources into CAISO markets. Develop bidding strategies to optimize dispatch in CAISO markets.

Minimum QualificationsA minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience at an electric utility, Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program or in a closely related field. Education and or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, economics, or finance.

Experience With* Negotiating Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

• Developing bidding strategies for optimizing assets in CAISO markets.
• Contract management best practices and how to manage stakeholder relationships between counterparties staff and consultants, community and the public.
• Knowledge of various contract types such as Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and settlement structures such as “contract-for-differences” and “index-plus”. Knowledge of the CAISO Markets, Energy and Ancillary products, and bidding requirements.
• Knowledge of the CAISO Interconnection Process and the Transmission Grid.
• Knowledge of the California Resource Adequacy policies and rules.
• Knowledge of Energy policies, rules, and regulations of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), California Energy Commission (CEC), the California Independent System Operator (CAISO).

**Starting Salary Range: $124,704.00 - $163,154.40.**Application Process
