With energy demand on the rise, nuclear power is the clear choice to maintaining a stable low carbon baseload which can be combined with renewable energy. EDF is shaping the UK's future energy infrastructure with projects such as Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C Hemma Engineering Graduate.

**What is the Graduate Scheme**

As a Mechanical Engineering graduate, you will embark on a 15-month programme that offers the chance to experience placements across our Nuclear Decommissioning business unit. Within Nuclear Decommissioning, where on behalf of the Government, our job is to remove all of the used fuel from the reactors and fuel ponds which represents over 99% of the radioactive material from each site. Your placements could include working with our client teams, defueling team, project management office, and many more. On this programme, you'll learn from our experts, gain valuable experience, build your confidence, and have the support of an assignment manager, mentor, and buddy throughout the programme. Our previous graduates have gone on to become Technical Managers, Senior Leaders, and Heads of Function.

**Training, development, and support for you**

We're passionate about your development and we offer each graduate a tailored training plan relevant to your discipline to develop your skills, build your confidence, knowledge, and experience. You'll contribute to different projects throughout the programme and examples of work our recent graduates have completed includes:

  • Preparing a fire strategy for buildings at our power stations
  • Working in the Fuel Route Outage and Investment Delivery team
  • Understanding of the preparations for operating HPC when complete
  • Working on-site at a power station supporting graphite inspections

Our Science and Engineering Programme also includes protected training time for courses covering EPR European Pressurised Reactor systems, communications, and health safety. Our scheme is accredited with the Insitution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), we'll support you to gain chartership. You'll have mentors and industry experts to give you advice along the way and help you with decisions about your future career path.

**Requirements**

  • 2:2 Bachelor's Degree or a 2:2 Postgraduate Degree obtained or expected in any Science or Engineering degree
  • A genuine interest in nuclear energy, the power generation industry, and technology
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
  • Keen to solve technical problems
  • Works well to deadlines in a time-critical environment

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will ordinarily require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
