Job Description

As a Formulation Scientist at altM, the candidate will be responsible for conducting hypothesis testing, and designing and developing novel formulations using altM's biomaterials for diverse applications, including but not limited to cosmetics, adhesives, and other formulation chemistries.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in novel formulation development using biomaterials, proficiency in modern laboratory techniques, and excellent problem-solving skills aligned with altM's performance, safety, and sustainability protocols. Attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the creation and optimization of novel formulations for various applications, accounting for scalability, manufacturability, cost efficiency, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and maintain ingredient and formulation testing protocols; conduct extensive testing of formulations to assess their stability, efficacy, safety, and environmental impact.
  • Develop and maintain industry networks for formulation development and collaboration; act as altM’s interface for external formulation collaborations and technical reviews.
  • Maintain documentation for research processes, formulation iterations, testing outcomes, and related workstreams.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, sales, engineering, legal, and production.
  • Stay current on emerging trends, technologies, and regulatory updates relevant to cosmetics and biochemicals.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant work experience (or PhD with 2+ years of relevant work experience) in chemistry/pharmaceutical sciences, or evidence of exceptional ability.
  • Deep understanding of chemical and physical properties of materials used in cosmetics, paints, adhesives, and other similar formulation chemistries.
  • Proficiency in various formulation techniques and analytical methodologies.
  • Solid grasp of regulatory standards governing cosmetics and other industrial chemicals.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and ethical conduct in scientific research.
  • This is an onsite role and requires physical presence.
  • Ability to travel locally, domestically in India, and overseas.
