The OpportunityAbt Global seeks a qualified Director of Gender, Equity, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) for the anticipated, four-year, USAID-funded Pakistan Climate Resilient Water Governance Activity (CRWGA). This activity will promote more resilient water governance and management systems in Pakistan to combat extreme weather events (floods and drought), exacerbated by climate change. Specifically, CRWGA will focus on improving community-led, cost-effective, and sustainable water systems in areas faced with flash floods/hill torrents across the country.

Pakistan is one of the most climate vulnerable countries in the world while also being home to one of the world’s youngest populations, largest refugee populations, and speakers of over 75 languages. Addressing the unique needs and leveraging the strengths and knowledge of these diverse populations is essential for sustainable development and climate resilience. Recognizing the critical role of gender, equity, disability, and social inclusion in achieving CRWGA’s goals, Abt is hiring a GEDSI Director for the upcoming project. As the GEDSI Director, you will lead the development and implementation of the project’s Gender and Inclusive Development Strategy and the integration of these components into all aspects of the project, both technical and operational. The position is expected to be full-time for four years. This position will be based in Islamabad, Pakistan and is contingent upon program award and USAID approval.

What We Value* A degree or lived experience in a relevant field such as gender studies, social sciences, social inclusion, environmental sciences, or international development.

• Significant professional experience in gender, equity, disability, and social inclusion, preferably on USAID projects and in the context of water governance or agriculture.
• Strong understanding of the socio-cultural and political context of Pakistan.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective GEDSI strategies and programs in complex environments.
• General knowledge of Pakistan’s policy environment for climate resilience, water management, agricultural development. General knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) and adaptive management is an asset.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Strong skills in verbal and written communication required.
• Fluency in English and Urdu required. Proficiency in Pashto and additional languages, such as Sindhi and Punjabi, preferred.
