Job Description

**Position Overview:**Solid Power is seeking a Cell Development Engineer to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative team environment. This position will work closely with both the R&D and cell engineering teams accelerating identification of key materials and design parameters to enable widescale deployment of Solid Power’s ASSB technology.

Job Duties:* Support cell design & development efforts throughout the product development cycle.

  • Propose DOE and test plans to elucidate electrochemical data and performance.
  • Support Cell Dev-Process SME’s in identifying critical parameters to our design.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on electrochemical impact and production defects during risk assessment and root cause analyses.
  • Develop post-mortem failure-analysis techniques and test plan.
  • Create a database connecting electrochemical performance to post-mortem analysis.
  • Deep dive into electrochemical data to elucidate trends and relationship to process engineering, cell design, and failure modes.
  • Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.

Qualifications/Requirements:* PhD in chemistry, physics, or materials engineering; or MS with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in cell design in a professional (non-academic) environment.

  • Experience with equivalent circuit modeling of LIBs.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with failure analysis of electrochemical systems.
  • Experience with spectroscopic, microscopic, thermal, and mechanical analysis.
  • Experience creating and managing engineering documentation.
  • Experience supporting FMEA activities.
  • Experience in the use of statistical design (D.O.E.) with relevant software experience (Minitab, Jump, Concerto,etc).
  • In-depth knowledge of Li-ion battery cell materials, operation, performance, and failure modes.
  • Strong technical communication skills and facility for communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences.

Physical Requirements:* Prolonged periods of sitting.

  • Ability to work in a dry room environment and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, and coveralls.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $140,000 annually
