  • **Position Type:** Full Time On Site
  • **Description:** Boston Government Services (BGS) is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Target System team for the Second Target Station (STS) project at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). As a Mechanical Design Engineer on the STS project, you will play a crucial role in the objective to build the world-leading high brightness Neutron Science Facility. You will have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team of professionals and contribute to groundbreaking research in a variety of fields including energy production and storage, medical advancements, and environmental studies.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design and integration of the Target Systems scope.
  • Provide detail drawings, design specifications, procurement support, installation support, and testing support for the assigned portion of Target Systems scope.
  • Communicate and collaborate with engineers, designers, scientists, and vendors throughout the design process.
  • Assist senior or lead engineers with team coordination and management of deliverable timelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or similar discipline.
  • 2 years of professional experience in design, assembly, analysis, or testing of complex mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design of complex parts and large assemblies.
  • Ability to communicate engineering problems and design concepts effectively to project partners.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles including mechanics, fluids, heat transfer, etc.

Location & Work Arrangement

  • Onsite work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a related engineering discipline.
  • Familiarity with PTC Creo for CAD design and Windchill or other PDM or PLM software.
  • Experience with analytical tools such as ANSYS Mechanical and Fluent CFD.
  • Experience designing systems for operation in an accelerator or nuclear environment.
