Intermediate Environmental Scientist Technologist - Emergency Response

**Your Opportunity:** We are seeking an Intermediate Environmental Scientist Technologist with a focus on Emergency Response to join our Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) team in Alberta and/or Northwest Territories. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of and lead the execution of emergency response projects. Under the leadership of outstanding managers, this opportunity allows you to be a part of a cohesive and highly skilled team of environmental professionals.

**Your Key Responsibilities:**

  • Provide technical and field support for emergency response projects predominantly within western Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, and Yukon Territory).
  • Mobilizing on short notice and participating in field work including working up to 12 hours per day and traveling outside your local city often staying overnight for multiple days.
  • Supervision of emergency response contractors to complete cleanup including shoreline cleanup assessment techniques (SCAT).
  • Fulfilling health and safety requirements and completing all work in accordance with established protocols.
  • Writing technical reports.
  • When emergency response programs are not prevalent, execution of routine SIR field projects including but not limited to compliance monitoring, Phase II and III Environmental Site Assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, contractor supervision on remediation and reclamation projects.

**Qualifications:**

**Your Capabilities and Credentials:**

  • Dedication to working safely within established procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to communicate clearly under high-pressure work environments, collect clear, concise, and accurate field notes, and provide periodic updates to the project team of current and changing field conditions and response activities.
  • Adaptability, organization, critical thinking, self-motivation, a keen willingness to learn, a love of the outdoors, attention to detail, succinct writing ability, and ability to multitask.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to identify issues in the field while working with senior staff to develop solutions.
  • Proficiency with standard productivity software including all MSOffice products.
  • Knowledge and experience of wetland assessments, wildlife assessments, and shoreline cleanup assessment techniques (SCAT) are assets but are not required.
  • Experience with digital field data collection tools such as ArcGIS-based tools and EQUIS-based tools are assets but are not required.
  • Additional skills such as current First Aid training, WHMIS, H2S Alive, UTV operator training, water and soils sampling, mechanical aptitude are assets but are not required.
  • Practical knowledge of working outdoors or in an outdoor environment are assets but are not required.
  • Practical knowledge of working with hand tools and problem-solving skills around scientific apparatus and project-specific tools are assets but are not required.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Able to travel and mobilize on short notice throughout Canada to complete field work.
  • Must hold and be able to maintain a Class 5 Alberta driver's license or equivalent.

**Education and Experience:**

  • Completed a post-secondary certificate, diploma, or bachelor's degree program in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience.
  • Previous experience in the completion of any of the following: Phased Environmental site assessments, Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III Environmental Site Assessments, Emergency response, Groundwater or soil monitoring programs.
