Job Title: Electrical Mechanical Engineer Substations

Location: Northwest London

About the Role

As an Electrical Mechanical Engineer Substations, you will join the London Northwest team and be based within a 1-hour commute of the Elstree substation in Hertfordshire. The team covers 6 substations in Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Watford, and Barnet. You will start by gaining site experience and completing core training, with further classroom-based and on-site training. After training, you'll support standby rota and emergency call-out requirements. You may travel to support wider zones via mobility ways of working.

The role involves leading and delivering high-voltage electricity substation capital projects, maintenance, and fault investigation rectification in a commercially focused manner while supervising team members. You'll ensure safe work systems, share expertise, and oversee maintenance, refurbishment, or replacement of various plant and equipment. Once safety authorizations are in place, there is potential to become a Senior Authorised Person (SAP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Operations Manager and team members
  • Manage project delivery performance
  • Undertake standby and emergency call-out duties
  • Ensure safe work practices and completion of maintenance and replacement works
  • Supervise staff, contractors, and monitor progress
  • Conduct maintenance, fault investigation, repair, and safety implementation
  • Assist with commissioning activities

About You

If you are a natural leader with strong communication, organization, and planning skills, and have the following qualifications and experiences, this role may be for you:

  • Full UK driving license
  • Engineering level 3 qualification or equivalent recognized apprenticeship
  • Significant electrical or mechanical engineering experience in an industrial setting
  • Experience working under safety rules
  • Fault-finding experience

Desirable Qualifications

  • NEBOSH general certificate
  • Experience with substation plant HV cable systems or Protection Control
  • Experience in emergency response, project delivery, and commissioning
