LFA Fellow

Tristan Copley Smith is launching Panoramic Labs, a venture combining storytelling and ethnography to surface climate challenges and opportunities. The lab's first project, a mid-length documentary called The Empathy Project, explores multi-species justice: an early signal of what Tristan does: connect ideas with audiences capable of acting on them.

"The Learning for Action Fellowship helped me see the full landscape of climate innovation - not just the problems, but the pathways for meaningful intervention. It sharpened my ability to connect creativity, technology, and strategy in ways that can move systems at scale. Beyond the work, the people I met - future collaborators, advisors, and peers - became an enduring network of support for my ventures and ideas."

Before Panoramic Labs, Tristan co-founded the climate communications agency Possible Studio, launched OSBeehives (a citizen science platform), and produced journalism and film with The Guardian, Al Jazeera English, and HuffPost. He has also worked with NASA, Innovation Norway, and co-created award-winning eco-tech ventures.

Reflecting on LFA, Tristan shares: "The Learning for Action Fellowship helped me see the full landscape of climate innovation — not just the problems, but the pathways for meaningful intervention. It sharpened my ability to connect creative strategy with systems-level thinking."

Tristan's work sits at the point where stories become decisions. That's rarer than it sounds.
