Rachel Miller is Development Director at Gowanus Canal Conservancy in Brooklyn, leading fundraising strategy for an organization working to adapt the Gowanus neighborhood to the impacts of climate change. She came to this role after 18 years in archives and libraries: not a typical path into climate work, but a direct one once she decided to make the move.

"Not only did LFA give me greater fluency in the drivers of and solutions to climate change, even more importantly it motivated me to make the leap Id been considering for years. By the end of the program I was able to chart out my best pathways for career transition and understand where I could make an impact. The deeply caring culture of the program and the support network it provides both during and after were lifelines for me."

Reflecting on the LFA Fellowship, Rachel shares: "Not only did LFA give me greater fluency in the drivers of and solutions to climate change, even more importantly it motivated me to make the leap I'd been considering for years. By the end of the program I was able to chart out my best pathways for career transition and understand where I could make an impact. The deeply caring culture of the program and the support network it provides both during and after were lifelines for me."

Rachel made a considered transition in her mid-career and is now doing work that directly addresses what climate change does to the places where people live. The Gowanus is one of those places.
