Job Description
Uncommon Schools is seeking a Middle School Science Instructor in Paulsboro, NJ. The role involves creating an engaging, NGSS-aligned science curriculum for economically disadvantaged students, fostering critical thinking and passion for science. Candidates should support students' social-emotional and academic growth and collaborate effectively. Responsibilities include teaching interdisciplinary science concepts, facilitating interactive labs, and analyzing student data to improve instruction. This is a full-time position.
As a Middle School Science Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will be part of a dynamic team working to deliver an exceptional K-12 education in economically disadvantaged communities. Your responsibility will be to create an engaging, NGSS-aligned science curriculum that fosters critical thinking and a passion for science among students.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to supporting students' social-emotional and academic development. They will be enthusiastic about collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students. A self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives is essential for this role.
The responsibilities of this position include:
1. Instruction
• Teach an interdisciplinary, NGSS-aligned curriculum that includes analysis of key areas such as climate and earth's systems, the cosmos, matter and energy transformations, electricity and magnetism, and molecular and ecological systems.
• Develop students' practices of questioning, modeling, constructing explanations, data analysis, argumentation, and planning and conducting interactive labs.
• Use your love of science to foster confidence and meaningful engagement with the subject for students.
• Cultivate an awareness of the interconnected nature of fields of science (e.g., ecosystems, climate change, and lunar phases) and our local and global community.
2. Data Analysis
• Meet weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze and respond to trends in student work samples and assessments.
• Learn and implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom.
