Job Description
Purefield Ingredients LLC is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator in Russell, KS. The role involves developing a safety culture, conducting audits, training new hires, evaluating health and safety programs, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The coordinator will also manage safety meetings, monitor contractors, and assist with worker’s compensation programs. A bachelor's degree or relevant experience in health and safety is preferred.

POSITION PURPOSE
To develop and maintain the health of our people, help create a safety culture of zero harm, provide a secure safe workplace, and take care of the environment by supporting the EHS Director, plant management and workforce.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
• Conduct audits to identify risks and ways to mitigate those risks while teaching personnel.
• Own Safety success of all new hires through suitable training content and delivery modes.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety programs and policies through consistent monitoring and auditing
• Understand risks applicable to contractor and external service providers, implement, oversee, and evaluate approved processes to control risks with contractors
• Lead, support and encourage the actions needed that are identified by leading indicators and tracked by a safety scorecard
• Participate in incident investigations in partnership with plant supervisors and employees
• Implement and execute controls and programs and ensure they work as planned.
• Review completed pre-task forms, permits, and equipment inspections weekly to ensure compliance.
• Assist in building management and employee dedication and enthusiasm for safety through effective leadership and influence.
• Monitor and track contractors regarding insurance, safety questionnaire, evaluation, and associated paperwork.
• Conduct reports and inspections based on the Clean Water Act, Oil Pollution Act, and permits.
• Work with environmental engineers, consultants and contractors to meet requirements from KDHE and EPA, such as stack testing, emissions, LDAR, various plans, etc.
• Collect data and other information for environmental programs like land application, air permit reports, stormwater reports, etc.
• Participate in safety committee.
• Maintain, post, and submit OSHA Log 300 and Log 300A.
• Assist personnel with conducting safety meetings through research, hands-on tasks, games, etc.
• Maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) electronic version on L drive and hard copies in the plants.
• Assist with modified duty and worker’s compensation program.
• Manage the recycling program along with handling the materials.
• Coordinate the health fair activities.
• Follow SQF & FSMA food safety requirements.
• Ability to grow into the EHS Director role.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience
• Prior work experience in an industrial environment or work experience in a dedicated health and safety position or a related degree in Occupational Health & Safety.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, including public presentation ability
• Proven ability to work effectively and enthusiastically on a team
• Proven ability to recognize hazards, assess risk and recommend controls
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn and utilize other standardized systems
Skills/ABILITIES:
• Basic math skills related to OSHA log, noise analysis, audiograms, incident rates, maintaining roll sums, etc.
• Ability to proofread own and others work.
• Ability to learn and use various computer applications like, LLUMIN, KEIMS, CDX, etc.
• Reading comprehension.
• Time management skills to make the most productive use of your day.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit stand, climb, bend, and walk.
• The employee will work around mechanical machinery and mobile equipment.
• Significant time will be spent in the plant.
• Will be exposed to loud noises, wet and humid conditions, airborne particles, extreme hot and cold depending on weather conditions.
• Will be at heights occasionally.
