About the position

The Electric Vehicle Technician at Alta Equipment Company plays a crucial role in servicing and repairing heavy-duty commercial trucks, specifically focusing on Battery Electric Vehicles (EV) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV). This position requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and effective communication to ensure high-quality service and customer satisfaction. The technician will work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the advancement of zero-emissions technology while collaborating with a dedicated team.

Responsibilities
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and provide remedy solutions for repair of electrical systems and components on commercial trucks.

• Identify and evaluate root cause malfunctions using electronic tools, schematics, and other troubleshooting methods.
,
• Demonstrate proper communication methods to the team and effectively explain truck conditions, status, and recommendations to clients, associates, and management.
,
• Order parts for repairs as needed and plan/control costs in support of the EV/FCEV product line(s).
,
• Complete detailed reports and keep records on services performed.
,
• Learn and use appropriate EV/FCE products, procedures, and systems.
,
• Provide on-the-job training as assigned.
,
• Travel to customer and/or installation start-up locations as needed.
,
• Make warranty recommendations to customers.
,
• Communicate with proper individuals to clarify instructions and discuss the scope or progress of a job.

Requirements
• Minimum of 18 months experience in the heavy-duty trucking industry or related field.
,
• Understanding of chassis, braking, electrical, and HVAC systems.
,
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
,
• Proficient with current software and computer system platforms, including diagnostic tools via CAN, LIN, J1939, and OBD.
,
• Ability to work independently without much supervision and effectively manage time.
,
• Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
,
• Current commercial driver's license preferred, but training available for ideal candidate.
,
• High voltage experience preferred with Metra hit and low voltage 87-V.
,
• Ability to read detailed Fault Isolation diagrams.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience with high voltage systems.

• Certification in operating forklifts or vehicle lifts.
