Job Description

Passive House Network is seeking an Architectural Consultant in Charlotte, NC. The role involves collaborating with architects and contractors on sustainable building projects, performing fieldwork, and supporting various architectural tasks. Candidates must be a registered architect with 7-10 years of experience in building preservation and enclosures. Key responsibilities include construction observations, design reviews, and project documentation. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential.
This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Architectural Consultant for our Charlotte, NC office. WSP works closely with architects, owners, and contractors from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment. Be involved in projects with our Property & Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Our Charlotte, North Carolina team evaluates and rehabilitates existing commercial, industrial, and military buildings. This work includes performing field work to document the structure, performing architectural, engineering, and building enclosure modeling and analysis, developing construction documents, and providing construction administration services.

Your Impact
• Support a variety of architectural tasks with the goal to promote technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Practice basic principles of Building Preservation and Building Enclosure Systems.
• Perform on-site construction observations.
• Provide support in completing multi-disciplinary on-site forensic investigations.
• Review fenestration, vertical facade, roofing systems, and waterproofing.
• Provide building enclosure commissioning and consulting services.
• Assist project teams with completing building enclosure design reviews.
• Assist with conducting functional performance testing of enclosure systems.
• Assist with project research, analysis and design calculations.
• Prepare reports, design documents (design drawings and specifications) and cost estimates.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
• Registered Architect in North Carolina and Florida.
• Seven to ten years (minimum) of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior building preservation, enclosures, façade design, and sustainability experience.
• Familiar with building materials and construction processes for design, construction, and/or repair of building enclosures, façades, waterproofing, cladding systems, roofs, parking structure, noise abatement, and the application to project work-related issues.
• Familiar with codes, building planning, design, façade, and construction management involving commercial, industrial, and historic buildings; including renovation and new design projects.
• Knowledge of third-party green building rating systems (LEED, Passive House, LBC, WELL, or related).
• Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
• Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit, WUFI, THERM, energy modeling).
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Occasional/intermittent travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
• Strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
• Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
• Ability to perform field work and to work at heights.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Licensed in multiple states, preferably in the southeast United States.
• National Council of Architectural Registration Boards certificate holder.
• Member of or interest in becoming a member of the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC).
• IIBEC Registered Roof Consultant (RRC), Registered Waterproofing Consultant (RWC), and Registered Exterior Wall Consultant (REWC), and/or Registered Building Enclosure Consultant (RBEC).
• Experience using AutoCAD, Revit, and other technical software.
