Job Description
The ACCD Environmental Specialist position at the State of Vermont involves supporting environmental reviews for community development projects. Ideal for recent graduates, it requires skills in environmental regulations and project management. Overview
Join the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD)'s Vermont Community Development Team and support environmental review for community development and housing projects across the State.
This is a great position for a recent graduate who is skilled at reviewing, processing, and communicating complex information related to environmental regulations and compliance, project management, and collaboration. The ideal candidate is eager to collaborate with other agencies, partners, and stakeholders to protect the environment and strengthen communities.
This position will work independently under the general supervision of the Environmental Officer to serve as a point of reference for all environmental compliance issues related to federal HUD programs with a focus on the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG); the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program (CDBG-DR), the HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME); and the Recovery Housing Program (RHP).
DHCD is remote work friendly, but we do require at least two in-office collaboration days per week in Montpelier, VT.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting; however, field activity will occasionally be required, for which State rental vehicles are available. Fieldwork may require traversing rough terrain in a variety of weather conditions. Attendance may be required at public meetings where strong opinions may occasionally be encountered.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in natural resource management, environmental science/studies, environmental law, biology, botany, ecology, soils science, lands management, archaeology, anthropology, historic preservation, sociology, cultural resources, civil/environmental engineering, or other related field AND one (1) year or more of experience as a technician in a civil or environmental engineering, or natural resources field, or a field associated with any of the above degree subjects.
