We are offering a full time year round position that centers on pressing vegetable oils on our self sufficient farm with a chance to purchase or lease the property after a year of work and learning about our farm. Pay scale starts at $18 per hour for a 30 hour week and $22 per hour after 6 months.
You must be a Canadian citizen.
We need someone to continue farming our 50 acre organic farm by joining as an employee, then managing the farm and hopefully take over ownership by leasing or purchasing. We press sunflower oil, hemp oil, flax oil and camelina oil from our own crops grown on our farm. We also mill spelt flour grown on our farm. We also grow rye,spelt, oats, camelina,sunflowers, hay for animals feed and plant cover crops after each crop. We have a garden to provide us with most of our food as well as chickens for eggs and meat.
We have draft horses that work in the fields, a cow and many tractors that use sunflower oil as fuel, lots of horse drawn machines, two barns a welding and a woodworking shop. We are located close to Straffordville Ontario.
We have a one bedroom apartment at $950 per month or two bedroom apartment at $1250 month.
We start a 4 day week (24 hours per week) after December 20 and back to a five day in early march. We generally work from Monday to Friday but there will be days haying or harvesting on Saturday and Sunday with time off to compensate.
We are not associated with any religious organization. No smoking or illegal drugs are to be used on our farm.
Applicants can also earn an income from a rented field while sharing the chores of keeping our farm going. There is a Tillsonburg farmers market and port Rowan farmers market close to our farm.
If you are interested you need to have been raised on a farm or, and have about 5 years of farming experience. One must have a drivers license and have experience driving a tractor, combine, swather and truck. You must be able to repair equipment,weld and operate in a machine shop on a lathe or milling machine.
We have a very wonderful organic lifestyle that is debt and mortgage free and want to share it with someone who is equally enthusiastic about regenerative organic farming. We have every piece of equipment necessary for growing seeds and harvesting for our vegetable oils pressing and flour milling. We are self sufficient for food for ourselves, horses, cow and chickens as well as having solar electricity, diesels and diesel generators that run on sunflower oil. We have heritage chickens and organic eggs. As well as the three draft horses we have tractors, a combine and a swather with all of the equipment needed for tractors or horses in the fields, for harvesting and planting. We practice regenerative farming using pastures for animals, having crops only after a few seasons of pasture to restore soils with cover crops and compost.
There is lots of water. We have a welding shop, machine shop and wood working shop and all the equipment necessary for making and maintaining our equipment. We have a wood lot were we log with the horses. We heat our water and buildings with a wood fired stoves in the winter and have evacuated tubes in the summer for hot water. Most of our electricity is provided by solar cells or sunflower powered diesels. The farm has a good customer base for our oil and flour sales which could also be customers for a vegetable or other businesses. Write me with your resume.
