Job Description
Ixom Watercare is seeking a Safety, Health & Environment Advisor in Dickinson, ND. The role involves implementing SH&E systems, providing guidance to employees, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Responsibilities include training staff, leading incident investigations, monitoring legislation, and supporting SH&E improvement projects. The advisor will work closely with site personnel to enhance workplace safety and health standards.
The Role:
The Safety, Health and Environment Advisor will implement systems, process, and programs to enable a safe and healthy work environment. Providing direct SH&E support and guidance to employees and leaders on-site and across business unit activities ensuring compliance to legislation and regulatory requirements, along with alignment to the Ixom SH&E and Sustainability framework, management systems, processes, and ongoing initiatives.
• Work closely with site and field personnel to understand the concerns and risks they identify and support development of measures to mitigate.
• Responsible for implementation and continued usage of Ixom's SH&E Management Systems at a Business Unit level, across site and field operations, and future acquisitions. Review local procedures to ensure compliance with the Ixom SH&E Management System (Policies, Standards and Procedures, etc.). Identify and rectify gaps. Provide necessary training to employees.
• Deploy the Ixom Critical Risk Management System including bowtie risk assessments, completion of Critical Control Adequacy Assessments and deployment of, and review of Critical Control Effectiveness Tests.
• Participate in auditing and inspections of SH&E and Critical Risk systems as required.
• Conduct risk assessments (bowtie, JSERA, HIRAC, etc.) and assist operations to identify and prioritize areas critical for improvement. Assist on the development and execution of correspondent action plans and projects. ensure risk competence of site and field employees to complete risk assessments.
• Provide specialist support, coaching and training in the full use of VelocityEHS.
• Develop and monitor annual SH&E and Sustainability Improvement Plans for Watercare USA business, including leading SH&E improvement projects for the business unit.
• Grow organizational capability by provision of training on key SH&E competencies e.g. Basic Incident Investigation, action management, manual handling, ergonomics, confined space, work at heights, CPR etc.
• Lead, support and ensure consistency and quality of post-accident and incident investigations, including participation as a lead investigator for all recordable injuries and High Potential Incidents. Ensure good quality investigation reports and timely and effective action closure.
• In partnership with Human Resources, worker’s compensation providers and state agencies, work to get employees reporting a workplace injuries or illnesses receive timely and appropriate care and can return to work swiftly.
• Monitor regional and country legislation - communicate and implement as required business unit and site level implications of changes.
• Provide specialist advice on site and operational specific compliance to the US (OSHA, EPA, DOT etc) regulatory framework, including applicable ANSI Standards
• Coach, share and support good SH&E practices and processes at business unit and front-line levels.
• Identification and communication of SH&E issues and trends for shared learning across appropriate stakeholder groups including SH&E data analysis and reporting for Watercare BU.
• Lead office and warehouse site level compliance reviews to maintain all required SH&E certifications e.g. OSHA SHARPS Program, Worker’s compensation discount programs.
• Completion of Workplace Hazardous Substances risk assessments (Right to Know)
• Through direct interaction with third party contractors, assist in regulator inspections and audits as required and support customer tender requests and prequalification systems e.g. ISN, Avetta etc
• Act as the Safety Committee Chairperson leading or assigning other rotating leaders for monthly meeting to discuss employee questions and concerns and keeping the business abreast of updates or areas needing attention.
• Participate in site safety audits to eliminate risks and hazards, ensuring they are complete in a timely and accurate fashion with any action items assigned for correction.
• Manage our Emergency Response program including performing drills at the agreed frequency.
• Ensure all Safety equipment (Climbing, Gas Monitors, Breathing protection) are fit for purpose. Providing initial and refresher trainings for individuals and groups on a variety of best practices and regulatory topics.

Job Duties:
• Facilitate and maintain customer contact with new and existing customers
• Conduct project coordination in a collaborative manner with the Regional Sales managers
• Prepare professional proposals with guidance from the commercial team
• Follow up with potential customers to assist project closure
• Responsible for recording customer interactions in a CRM software program
• Participate in basic equipment guidance directing complex inquiries to the correct resources internally
• Effectively and professionally communicate with the Field Services team at customer sites performing installations and maintenance on our products
• Please note that experience in the following job duties is preferred, but not required; we are willing to train the right candidate.
Requirements:
• Degree qualified in relevant functional discipline i.e. OHS/WHS, System Safety, Safety, Engineering, Risk Management, Psychology, Allied health e.g. physical therapy, kinesiology etc or alternative work experience in lieu of a degree
Preferred:
• Post graduate qualifications in WSH, quality, business or risk management
• Certified Safety Professional
• Member of American Society of Safety Professionals
Experience:
• 3-5+ years’ experience in a similar role (preferably in heavy industry, supply chain, hazardous materials)
• Working knowledge of relevant US OSHA and DOT Safety legislation
• Fundamental computing skills (e.g. Microsoft Office suite, Database entry)
• Ability to communicate with senior leadership, operational management, people leaders and front line employees
• Proven experience influencing and supporting stakeholders
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent time management skills
• Ability to influence, lead and build local teams
• Sound understanding of finance and business management practices
Abilities (Physical and Social Requirements)
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and participate in collaborative problem- solving conversations.
• Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
• Comfortable working at heights and around large bodies of water.
• Must be able to lift to 40 pounds at a time.
• Occasional air travel - USA domestic and potential international (up to 30% work time)
• Ability to drive up to 6 hours in a day.
• Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment including safety glasses, goggles, respirators and hearing protection
• Ability to work from home (up to 2 days/week) and/or office-based environment, including active participation in video conferences (MS Teams Meetings) and occasionally after hours for meetings with Australia (2-4 times per month)
