The NJ Green Bank Intern at NJEDA will support Senior Project Officers in developing the New Jersey Green Bank, conducting research on clean energy initiatives, and engaging with stakeholders. Responsibilities include identifying investment opportunities, fostering partnerships, and preparing presentations. Overview

Job Summary
• NJ Green Bank Overview

The NJ Green Bank’s (NJGB) purpose mobilize private capital to create good paying jobs statewide, advance New Jersey’s climate goals, and facilitate an equitable energy transition.

NJGB is dedicated to providing financial support for projects that align with the State’s climate goals, which include (but are not limited to) zero-emission transportation, building decarbonization and resiliency, and clean energy generation and storage. NJGB is in its start‐up phase, and this role will be supported via an initial staff, a 7‐member board of directors and supporting infrastructure via a MOU with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. The current initial capitalization is approximately $200 million.

Job Overview
• Supports Senior Project Officers developing the New Jersey Green Bank
• Conducts research and analysis, identifies and engages with key stakeholders, and prepares draft documentation for internal and external audiences for the New Jersey Green Bank
• Maintains industry knowledge and remains abreast of the latest developments in the clean energy sector; conducts research on clean energy initiatives and green banks in other states and regions

Responsibilities

Duties

Daily Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Perform self-directed research on key clean energy generation sectors in New Jersey including but not limited to solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal
• Perform self-directed research on investment pillars in New Jersey including but not limited to battery storage, electric vehicles, and building decarbonization
• Conduct research on trends and best practices amongst Green Banks regionally and nationally
• Identify and foster partnerships with public institutions across the state to raise awareness about NJGB as a key financing solution for climate projects

Goals and Objectives:
• Assist in identifying and researching investment opportunities in green banking and sustainability sectors
• Support outreach to corporate clients, community partners, and governmental organizations and agencies to increase partnership and investment in sustainable initiatives statewide
• Help prepare presentations for potential investors and NJGB clients

Collaboration and Cross-Divisional Interaction:
• Engage with internal NJEDA teams supporting the NJ Green Bank as well as inter-agency partners executing similar sustainability-minded initiatives

Reporting Structure:
• Will report into Senior Project Officers, NJ Green Bank
• Will be relatively self-guided in completing deliverables on time and in scope
• Must complete annual self-assessment as required.
• Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications

Technical Skills:
• Preferred: Policy Analysis, Financial Forecasting and Pricing, Technology Analysis

Soft Skills:
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and to foster communication with business professionals and EDA staff
• Ability to synthesize findings and propose actionable solutions
• Knowledge and understanding of economic development, policy and industry trends related to the Clean Energy sector, and a working understanding of green finance and green banks

Education:
• Undergraduate degree in finance, policy, environmental sciences, engineering, energy or related fields preferred; enrollment in accredited degree program minimally required

Software/Tools Proficiency:
• NJEDA utilizes Microsoft as the core application platform and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred

Additional Information
• Minimal physical demands and ability to work out normal business hours
• Travel expected when necessary for business operations

Certificates and Licenses Required
• Staff are required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essentials duties of the position.
