Job Description

Oxfam-Québec is seeking a Climate Change Advisor for a 12-month mandate in Tamale, Ghana, as part of the Equality in Action Volunteer Cooperation Program. The role involves building local partners' capacities in climate change, designing green technologies, and influencing public policies. Candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, hold a relevant degree, have three years of experience in climate solutions, and be fluent in English. This is a 12-month mandate in Ghana – Tamale.

The mandate is under the Equality in Action Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP), which takes place in about ten countries Africa, Latin America and Middle East over an eight-year period (2020-2028).

The VCP aims to increase the involvement of local partners in inclusive, innovative and sustainable initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam's role is to support these organizations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam places the rights of women, girls, and vulnerable and marginalized people at the heart of everything we do.

Here's what your daily life will look like:

In close collaboration with Oxfam's in-country team members, your mandate will be to:
• Build capacities of partners on climate change and support Oxfam accountable governance programme and partners in the implementation and reporting of climate related activities to influence public policies.
• Help in designing green technological solutions including a solution to detect carbon emission from vehicles.
• Facilitate and help co-create solutions with key stakeholders including the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

For this mandate you must:
• Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status in Canada;
• Have university degree in Climate Change, Technology, Engineering, or a relevant field;
• Have 3 years of relevant experience, particularly in developing technological solutions to address climate change issues;
• Have good knowledge of the climate sector in Africa, including Ghana;
• Be fluent in English, spoken and written (required);
• Master the Office suite.

What we offer:
• Monthly allowance for living expenses;
• 20% increase in living allowance for an accompanying child (maximum of 2 children).
• 1,500$ CAD per year/per child for schooling.
• Monthly amount for rent;

• 200$ CAD for additional luggage;
• Advantageous medical insurance for you and the accompanying child(ren);
• A volunteer support program during your mandate and up to two months after your return to Canada;
