About the position

The Forestry Conservation Student position at the USDA Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center offers a unique opportunity for individuals aged 16 to 24 to engage in various conservation projects on public lands. This role prepares students for future employment in federal or private sectors by providing hands-on experience in wildland firefighting, timber management, watershed rehabilitation, and wildlife management, among other activities.

Responsibilities
• Learn natural resource management, safety, and incident command.

• Perform wildland fire suppression, management, control, and support.

• Improve watersheds and learn about soil and hydrology.

• Mitigate invasive species and identify flora, fish, and wildlife.

• Learn silviculture and land measurement, identify, value, and mark timber.

• Conduct reforestation and improve forest health.

• Maintain trails and recreation areas.

• Operate and maintain specialized tools and equipment.

Requirements
• Must be between 16 and 24 years old or have a disability.

• Ability to perform significant outdoor activity and physical training, including hiking with a pack and using tools.
