Job Description:
The Director of Supply Chain at John Muir Health is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, operational oversight, and continuous improvement of supply chain functions across the health system. This includes sourcing, procurement, materials management, warehousing, distribution, and inventory optimization to ensure the availability of critical supplies that support exceptional patient care. The Director will collaborate with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders to align supply chain strategies with organizational goals, driving efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and innovation. With a focus on quality, financial stewardship, compliance, and service excellence, the Director will lead a high-performing team to deliver reliable, responsive, and value-driven supply chain operations in a dynamic healthcare environment.
The supply chain management and oversight the Director is responsible for is from "procurement-to-payment" (P2P). John Muir Health (JMH) has outsourced its purchasing and strategic sourcing to its strategic partner, Optum. As the supply chain leader for the organization, this role will work closely with (1) Optum's Purchasing / Strategic Sourcing leader(s) and team members, (2) Materials Management and Distribution (part of John Muir Health's internal Supply Chain, and (3) Finance to ensure supply chain functions are aligned with contractual obligations, operational targets, and key performance indicators (KPIs). The Director will be responsible for identifying and implementing process improvements to optimize cost, process, sourcing, and other improvements and to identify and escalate any operational or cost reduction shortfalls. The Director will operate within a matrixed environment and will report directly to the Vice President of Finance with a dotted line to the Vice President of Ancillary Services.
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field - Required
• Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA), or a related field - Preferred
Experience:
• More than five (5) years experience in procurement and supply chain management, with expertise in procure-to-pay processes - Required
• More than three (3) years (of the 5-year requirement) of healthcare supply chain leadership experience in hospitals or health systems and group purchasing organizations - Preferred
• Experience with outsourced purchasing contractors, vendors, operations, and finance.
Certifications/Licensures:
• Certified Materials & Resource Professional (CMRP) - Preferred
• Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) - Preferred
• Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher). - Preferred
Skills:
• Strong understanding of ERP systems and procurement tools.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
• Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences, including executive leadership, clinical teams, and external stakeholders.
• Leadership abilities to manage and motivate a team.
• Knowledge of relevant compliance regulations and best practices.
• Experience with outsourced purchasing contractors, vendors, operations, and finance.
Work Shift:
Exempt Salaried (United States of America)
Pay Range:
$194,315.00 - $291,472.00
Salary
Offer amounts are based on demonstrated/relevant experience and/or licensure.
Pay will be adjusted to the local market if hired outside of the Bay Area.
Note: Positions at JMH which are exempt (not eligible for overtime) under the level of Manager are listed as hourly for compensation purposes on this posting. The work shift will contain the word 'exempt' on it.
