Job Description

Arcadis is seeking a Climate Adaptation Intern in Canada to support planning and engineering studies related to coastal protection, risk assessment, and environmental impact. The role involves data analysis, project management, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Candidates should have strong research and communication skills, proficiency in MS Office, and familiarity with GIS software. The position may require periodic travel for client site visits and workshops.
Role Responsibilities

As a Climate Adaptation Intern, you will engage in a variety of tasks to support planning and engineering studies for both current and expanding client projects. Your role will focus on tackling challenges related to coastal protection, risk assessment, stormwater management, groundwater analysis, benefit-cost evaluations, environmental impact studies, funding and grant management, and social impact assessments, among other resilience-focused needs.

Collaboration will be a fundamental aspect of your role, requiring you to work closely with multidisciplinary teams consisting of planners, engineers, scientists, designers, and other professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
• Analyze data and generate detailed reports, including both static and dynamic presentations, to effectively convey findings.
• Manage multiple projects concurrently, requiring strong multitasking skills.
• Research and draft reports on cost-effective and environmentally sustainable resilience strategies.
• Support client and project development by contributing to proposals and marketing materials.

We seek a proactive individual with strong research, writing, and communication skills who is eager to contribute to urban and coastal climate adaptation efforts, including securing project funding and assisting with implementation. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to conduct thorough research, and expertise in organizing and presenting data using tools such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Additionally, success in this role requires proficiency in MS Office applications, the ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently, and the capacity to collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams to drive successful project execution.

The position provides an opportunity to support a wide range of projects across the country, working with private, federal, state, and local government clients on initiatives related to risk assessment, climate adaptation, resilience planning, policy development, feasibility studies, engineering design, and project funding and implementation. You will work alongside some of the industry’s leading technical and professional experts.

Periodic travel to local and national client sites, conferences, or internal workshops may be required, offering valuable hands-on experience.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications:
• 0-5 years of experience in a relevant field.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Urban Planning, Coastal Sciences, Public Policy, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
• Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ESRI or QGIS).

Preferred Qualifications:
• Pursuing or holding a Master’s degree in Engineering, Urban Planning, Coastal Sciences, Public Policy, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Experience in coastal restoration, flood risk resilience, or infrastructure and resilience grant management.
• Proficiency in at least one of the following:
• GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro).
• Dashboarding tools (e.g., PowerBI, Airtable, Tableau).
• Programming languages (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, Fortran, Bash).
