Accountant at Watershed Conservation Authority

**Location:** Irwindale, CA, United States

**Salary:** $52,000 - $54,080 a year

**Employment Type:** Full time

**About the Watershed Conservation Authority (WCA):** The WCA is a joint powers authority in California, exercising the joint powers of the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy (RMC) and Los Angeles County Flood Control District (LACFCD). The WCA focuses on expanding and improving open space and recreational opportunities for conservation, restoration, and environmental enhancement in the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers Watershed area.

**Job Summary:** Reporting to the Deputy Executive Officer or Fiscal Manager, the Accountant will perform fiscal management and accounting duties in grant accounting, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. They will also act as a liaison between the Authority and external accounting staff, as well as assist in annual audit processes. Additionally, this role will involve human resources and policy-related duties.

**Responsibilities:**

  • Professional grant accounting including preparing invoices, monitoring budget trackers, and assisting with reconciliations
  • Input financial and statistical data into computer systems, maintain records, and generate reports
  • Liaise with project managers, personnel, and external organizations to exchange information
  • Provide fiscal clerical support and office management duties
  • Maintain personnel records, policies, and benefit programs
  • Manage physical and digital files related to contracts, grants, and accounting reports
  • Assist with property management involving leases and maintenance
  • Perform other duties as required

**Qualifications:**

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or Economics
  • Three years of experience in accounting, cost accounting, or related field
  • Proficiency in Excel and accounting software
  • Knowledge of grant and governmental budgeting, accounting principles, and project-based software
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyze budgets, interpret rules/policies, and maintain accurate records

  • Effective communication on accounting issues
  • Strong operational and fiscal judgment
  • Deadline-driven with the ability to multitask
  • Proficiency in Excel, QuickBooks, and other software programs
