About the position

The Urban Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor in Urban Studies, with a focus on Urban Planning and Sustainability. This is a full-time appointment stream position, pending budgetary approval, set to begin in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a 3-3 course load that intersects sustainability and planning, supporting the Program's Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning & Geographic Analysis. The academic discipline is open, but candidates must demonstrate expertise in research and undergraduate teaching related to urban sustainability and planning methodologies. The teaching responsibilities will include courses in urban sustainability, an introduction to urban and regional planning, and a capstone course in planning and geographic analysis. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Geography, Planning, or a related field by the time of appointment, along with evidence of successful undergraduate teaching experience. A strong commitment to continuous improvement in teaching and the ability to engage effectively with diverse undergraduate student populations, particularly in social sciences and engineering, are essential. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in undergraduate education and those who can contribute diverse perspectives to the program. Additional desirable criteria include evidence of pedagogical publications and successful communication strategies aimed at diverse student populations. Responsibilities
