1 - Youth Non-Profit Leadership Training (Remote)

Sustainable Capacity Solutions is offering a remote Youth Non-Profit Leadership Training program aimed at helping youth gain experience in the environmental sector. The program includes a 70-hour self-directed training course with live virtual sessions and independent study, along with a commitment of 20 hours/month for volunteering. Participants will learn various skills related to non-profit work and receive mentorship, culminating in community climate projects.
Youth Non-Profit Leadership Training

Organization: Various Canadian Environmental Nonprofit Organizations
Location: Ontario, Atlantic & Northern Regions in Canada

Time Commitment for Training: 20-70 hours between November 2024 - April 2025
Overall Commitment: In addition to the training time, you will be asked to commit roughly 20 hours/month for at least three months between January and April 2025 to volunteering for a local environmental non-profit.

Program Overview:
This program is part of Eco-Internships' Remote Youth Support Program (RYSP), offering two flexible options for participants:

Option 1: Full Version
For youth committed to working with an organization long-term (6-12 months).
• Total time: 60 hours
• One-week intensive boot camp (Jan 27-31, 2025)
• 2-hour monthly networking sessions (Nov 2024 – Apr 2025)
• Monthly mentor meetings
• Online readings, tutorials, and assignments
Option 2: Condensed Version
Ideal for part-time employees or volunteers with limited time.
• Total time: 20 hours
• 2-3 hour orientation
• Minimum 3 hours of mentorship meetings
• Online course materials (12 hours)
• Monthly meetings (Feb–April 2025)
Mentorship Opportunities
You’ll be paired with a youth mentor who will provide ongoing coaching, support, and feedback throughout your placement. Mentors will help you succeed and apply your new skills to real-world challenges.

Community Project Planning: Hands-On Climate Action
As part of the Remote Youth Support Program (RYSP), youth participants will lead community climate projects to tackle local environmental challenges. This hands-on experience allows you to plan, implement, and evaluate real climate action initiatives in your community.

Through these projects, you will:
• Develop project proposals and secure necessary resources
• Coordinate with local stakeholders and volunteers
• Document your process, assess your project's impact, and share your findings through written reports and evaluation surveys.
This experience ensures that you’ll contribute to your community and gain practical environmental project management and sustainability skills.

Microgrant Support
Microgrants will be available to selected participants based on funding availability to support these initiatives. These grants will cover essential project costs, helping you bring your innovative ideas to life and make a real impact on your local environment.

Share Your Story: Sustainable Stories
You can write articles about your community climate projects as part of the program. These articles will detail your journey from project inception to completion and will be published in the "Sustainable Stories: Local Actions, National Change" column of PERC’s digital newsletter, the PEN. Your work will highlight the impactful actions you’ve taken and inspire others to engage in practical climate action initiatives led by youth across Canada.

Eligibility Requirements:
• Ages 18-30
• Reside in Ontario, Atlantic, Maritime, or Northern Regions of Canada
• Must be involved with an environmental non-profit organization (ENPO)
• Available to complete a project between January and April 2025
